An Independent Agent Who Works for You, Not a Carrier

Better Rate Insurance exists because most drivers deserve a real choice — not a single company's product dressed up as one.

I'm an independent insurance agent based in Charlottesville, Virginia, and I built Better Rate around a straightforward idea: when you can compare dozens of carriers instead of selling just one, you almost always find a better fit. Better coverage, a better price, or both.

Why Independent Representation Changes the Outcome

Captive agents – the ones who work for Allstate, Nationwide, or State Farm – can only offer you what their company sells. If that product isn't the right fit for your situation, they don't have another option to offer you.

I do. Because I'm not contracted to any single carrier, I can shop your coverage across a broad market and place you with the company that actually makes sense for your risk profile, your budget, and your life.

That independence matters most when your situation is complicated — after a DUI, after a license suspension, if you need an SR22 or FR44 filing, or if you're trying to stretch a tight budget without dropping coverage you actually need.

Staying Current on Virginia's Insurance Laws

Virginia's insurance requirements changed significantly in 2024 and 2025. As of July 1, 2024, carrying insurance became mandatory for all drivers — the $500 uninsured motor vehicle fee option was eliminated. As of January 1, 2025, the minimum liability limits increased to 50/100/25, with matching uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage required.

I keep up with these changes so my clients don't get caught off guard. If you're not sure whether your current policy meets Virginia's updated requirements, that's exactly the kind of question I'm here to answer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Better Rate Insurance

  • Is Better Rate Insurance a local Charlottesville agency?

Yes. Better Rate Insurance is based in Charlottesville, Virginia, with a local phone number and physical address. I serve clients across Central Virginia, including Richmond, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Blacksburg, and Virginia Beach.

  • What makes an independent agent different from a captive agent?

A captive agent represents one carrier — Allstate, Nationwide, State Farm, and similar companies all use this model. An independent agent like me works with multiple carriers and can compare options across the market to find coverage that fits your specific situation and budget.

  • Do you handle SR22 and FR44 filings in Virginia?

Yes. SR22 and FR44 filings are a core part of what I do. I work with carriers that specialize in high-risk placements and can file same-day in most cases. If you've had a DUI, a license suspension, or a serious driving violation, I can walk you through your options.

  • Can you help me if I have a complicated driving record?

Yes. High-risk drivers are often turned away by captive carriers or quoted rates that don't reflect the full market. Because I work with multiple carriers — including those that specialize in non-standard placements — I can usually find coverage options that a single-carrier agent cannot.

How do I get started?

The fastest way is to request a quote online or call me directly. I'll ask a few questions about your situation and compare options across my carrier network to find the best fit.
